The Problem

I needed a capable screen capture and annotation tool for daily documentation and client work. The built-in Snipping Tool was too limited — no annotation depth, no window detection, no delay timer, no PDF output. Subscription tools like Snagit were overkill and added recurring cost for what should be a one-time build.

The Solution

Custom Electron desktop app built to my exact workflow: region, window, and full-screen capture with crosshair overlay, magnifier loupe, and automatic window detection. 15+ annotation tools including rectangle, ellipse, arrow, line, freehand pen, text, step counter, callout, highlight, stamp, blur, magnify, fill, eraser, and crop. Save as PNG, JPEG, or PDF. Copy to clipboard. Launcher window with delay timer (0/3/5/10s), system tray with hotkeys, and a portable EXE — no install, no cloud, no recurring cost. Once fully tested and revised, this may be released commercially.

No monthly SaaS fees; everything runs on owned infrastructure.

The Problem

Hermes (a Nous Research AI agent) tracks usage tokens but never fetches DeepSeek account balances — so anyone running DeepSeek models has no in-session view of what they have left. Checking meant leaving the session and hitting the API by hand.

The Solution

MIT-licensed open-source Hermes plugin that adds a /balance slash command — live DeepSeek balance at a glance, /balance warn for low-balance alerts with a custom threshold, and /balance raw for JSON. Reads the API key from the user's environment, pip-installable via the hermes_agent.plugins entry point, and published on GitHub so any Hermes user can install it.

The Problem

AI agents can perform increasingly complex infrastructure tasks, but giving an autonomous agent root-level access creates unnecessary risk. A compromised or misdirected agent could potentially access sensitive applications, credentials, databases, or system configuration.

The Solution

Designed and implemented a least-privilege AI operations environment using a dedicated non-root agent account, allowlisted operations, controlled Docker access, protected credentials, restricted deployments, and security validation. The agent can perform approved diagnostics, application management, and controlled deployments while protected systems—including a sensitive FX database—remain outside its authorized operational boundary. Implemented and tested on a production Hetzner VPS: 40+ protected-resource isolation tests passed, 36/36 approved functionality tests passed.
